SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities are searching for a man suspected of posing as a police officer and approaching children in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood.

The man falsely identifies himself as a police officer while attempting to attract children to his vehicle, Lt. Daniel Meyer with the San Diego Police Department said in a news release on Tuesday.

Around 10 a.m. on Monday, a man approached two children, a nine and 10-year-old, at Keiler Park on Woodrow Avenue, according to authorities. He then allegedly told the children he was a police officer and attempted to lure the children to his vehicle to take photos of them.

“Thankfully, the children were suspicious of the man’s behavior and did not follow him. Instead, they told an adult who called San Diego PD,” Meyer said.

The suspect is described as a man in his late 20s, 5 foot 4 to 5 foot 6, thin to medium build, with shoulder length black hair. He was last seen heading east on Lisbon St. wearing a blue T-shirt with white horizontal stripes, black pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact Detective David Kean at 619-527-3552 or dkean@pd.sandiego.gov.
